In 2018, we built a home for Cody, Pugsley and Cedric – the first monkeys ever to officially be allowed to retire from research. This cost around $90,000.

In 2019, we built George’s Haven, a new home for 9 monkeys and lemurs who were saved from abuse and neglect at a roadside zoo. The cost was $500,000.

In 2026, we need to build again. We currently look after 24 monkeys and lemurs — a total of 9 different species — but we have no space to take in more. We know there are monkeys who need a safe place, a place where they can make choices for themselves, but we have no more room.
We have the land for another building — we just need the money — $1million. This would cover the cost of the building and some of the additional costs of running a bigger sanctuary — utilities, supplies, food and staff.
Please visit our website regularly, follow our progress and donate here if you can. The monkeys need you.
Who can we save next?
“All Canadians can be proud of the work done by the Story Book Farm Primate Sanctuary which rescues and cares for primates. Primates are our closest animal relatives. They deserve our help. Please go to www.storybookmonkeys.org and see what you can do. Thank you.” Dr. Jane Goodall From her 2015 appeal when the sanctuary was looking to save its home.
