The Ring-tailed Lemurs

Myste and

Marwood

Birth date: Myste 2008, Marwood unknown
Arrival date: Myste 2025; Marwood 2020-06-16 with Bob and Collette

Myste is a ring-tailed lemur who was brought to the sanctuary all the way from PEI, where she had been kept as a pet for all her 17 years. She was seized by an animal welfare organization because her care was deemed inadequate. She is now living with another ring-tail, Marwood, probably for the first time in her life.

  • Previous home details:  Bob, Collette and Marwood came together. They were rescued from a zoo in Quebec that was closed due to abuse and neglect of over 200 animals.
  • Condition upon arrival:  They arrived at the sanctuary without names and, except for Colette, without complete tails. There was also evidence of them having suffered from frostbite at their previous home because of partially missing digits.
  • Progress: They have settled in well and make the most of the large space they share with various platforms, sleep boxes and branches to climb.
  • Favourite activity: They enjoy working with various enrichment devices to get at the treats. In the summer they love to sunbathe.
  • Favourite food:  Anything sweet but we limit their intake so they don’t gain too much weight.

“All Canadians can be proud of the work done by the Story Book Farm Primate Sanctuary which rescues and cares for primates. Primates are our closest animal relatives. They deserve our help. Please go to www.storybookmonkeys.org and see what you can do.
Thank you.”
Dr. Jane Goodall
From her 2015 appeal when the sanctuary was looking to save its home.
